Introduction: Informally association was started in
November 2007. It is registered with department of consumer affairs as
incorporated Association. Association has ABN & TFN from tax office, bank
account at Westpac, public Liability insurance with CGU and membership with
Multicultural affairs- Victoria and Federation of Indian associations of
Victoria. Aims: 1.
To
establish general rapport and communication within the Indian community in
Gippsland region in order to inculcate and sustain traditional values in
younger generation. 2.
To
help new migrants from India settle and facilitate their integration in to
wider community of Gippsland. 3.
To
organise cultural events and showcase Indian culture and art to the Gippsland
community. 4.
Integrate
with larger multicultural Australian society. 5.
To
organise meetings of people of Indian background to promote cultural and
traditional activities along with social get togethers. Activities: 1.
Committee
members meet periodically to discuss and address any specific issue and to
chart out events for the year. 2.
Encouraging children during informal get
together to express their talent by dance, singing and other activities. 3.
Group
meet for informal small get together at member’s houses. Larger events are
held at public halls such as Salvation Army hall at Traralgon Targeted Communities to be
benefited: People of Indian background that live in Gippsland area. Accomplishments so far: 1.
Identified
and contacted majority of people of Indian background. 2.
Established
an internet virtual group that has been operating since November 2007. 3.
So
far association has organised two major cultural events held at Art Centre,
Traralgon. Bollywood Night was held on 15 august, 2009 and colours of India
on 24th of July 2010. Both events were huge success and appreciated by all.
Every year 3 major get together of association were organised apart from
picnic and sport competition Future vision: 1.
To
highlight various cultural, religious and traditional aspects of Indian
community in the area. This is important for the multicultural integration of
expanding Gippsland community. This is expected to let people of Indian
origin, including children to express their talents and allow Gippsland
community at large to recognise such talent. 2.
To
help and assist new migrants from India to settle down in our area by
offering support of wider community. 3.
To
organise sport, educational, cultural and recreational activities |
